NEW DENGUE EDUCATIONAL VISITS
With effect from 8 November 2011, NEA will embark on a new operations regime in its dengue control operations. NEA officers will be conducting educational visits at residents' homes as part of their day to day dengue surveillance programme during the dengue non-peak months of November to March.
During these visits, our officers will not only highlight potential breeding grounds to the residents but also share dengue prevention tips. As the main objective is to engage and educate residents to do their part to curb mosquito breeding, fines will not be issued for mosquito breeding found in the course of such educational visits.
However, in areas where there is active transmission of dengue, i.e. in the dengue hotspots, or during the peak dengue transmission season, traditionally between April to October, NEA officers will continue with their regular inspections. NEA will continue to alert residents that they are in a dengue hotspot, through notification letters, banners, posters or working with the grassroots, and remind residents to do their part to help curb further transmission. Residents can also access www.dengue.gov.sg for such information, or sign up for SMS alerts concerning such hotspots in their neighbourhood through the following website: www.x-dengue.com . In such areas, educational visits will be suspended and NEA officers will take enforcement action against homeowners whose homes are found to be breeding mosquitoes in spite of the alerts and reminders.
